Here are 5 sticky wickets [defined as a difficult circumstance by Wikipedia] you will face if you live in a van or an RV. I know. Because they have all happened to me!

sticky wicket #1

I don't care if you live in a van, RV, skoolie, or car: bathroom duty is the worst.

There are a variety of ways to handle this. I have a black tank I have to find a place to dump.

Dump stations aren't everywhere.

Others have elaborate composting toilets and others have 5-gallon Home Depot orange buckets and an empty Tropicana orange juice container with a funnel.

Even though this is a natural occurrence in life, it is still as bad as throwing up drunk.

sticky wicket #2

Think of a time in your life when you were really dirty. Like rolling in the pasture type dirty.

Welcome to my van. It doesn't matter how hard I try it is like a sandstorm in a cornfield.

Inside and out.

If I have company I tell them to leave their shoes on so they don't get their feet dirty.

sticky wicket #3

A year ago when I lost my jeans in my van, I realized that I needed some organization skills.

How is it possible to lose something as big as jeans in 70 sq ft of space?

It is a constant struggle. I put it somewhere where I know I can find it and then I forget the place I put it. Don't laugh. This happens to you, too.

Now I have a lost and found.

sticky wicket #4

The headaches and constant need for band-aids. This comes from continually standing up too quickly and banging your head on the corner of a cabinet, or the open microwave door, or the cabinet between the house and the cab, etc.

I look like I just got out of the boxing ring most of the time.

sticky wicket #5

Finding a flat place to park. Sometimes when you eyeball it you think you have found the magical place only to have the frying pan slide off the stove.

Do you know those mountain goats that have longer legs on one side?

I used to have those blocks that you can drive the low wheel up on to level you out. These didn't work well for me because I couldn't find the sweet spot.

Now I wing it. Every once in a while I'll stay at a Walmart or Cracker Barrel to be flat for a day or two.

STICKY WICKETS

Don't let these sticky wickets prevent you from living in a van!

The upside is that as you travel learn to wear rubber boots, clean 10 minutes a day, be prepared to search, learn to duck, and lay a 2 x 4 next to you in bed so you don't roll out!!

I love van life and all of the pleasure and joy it gives me. Could you live with the sticky wickets to see the mountains, desert, oceans, trees, lakes, and streams?

I know I can!!
