Where Will I Stay Tonight? VanLife

In this blog I want to share with you about my fear. I hope that in the comments below you will tell me what your fears are, too.

Without a doubt, when I started this journey nearly three years ago, my biggest fear was where will I stay tonight.

When I first moved into my van I didn't leave the area I was living in for a bit of time. I never had any fear about where I was going to stay because I could stay in familiar places.

The day I left and headed out, though, a whole new fear grasped me. Where will I stay tonight?

This was my solution. I joined Boondocker's Welcome which has since merged with Harvest Host. I also have a membership with them.

Boondocker's Welcome is a group of people that welcome travelers to stay in their driveway, pasture, behind the barn or someplace on their property. For free. If they provide electric or water a donation is in order.

Harvest Host is a like-minded group of people that offer you a place to stay on their farm, ranch, wineries, hobby farm to name a few. This is also free. They usually have a store of some kind and appreciate you purchasing something.

Harvest Host and Boondocker's Welcome

When I left Amarillo headed toward Maine, I had the first two weeks of my journey planned. (Not a typical me.) I had reservations to stay with a Boondocker's Welcome host every night. Sometimes I stayed two nights.

I felt safe.

It wasn't long after, though, that I tried my first Walmart. And then a Truck Stop. And then a Cracker Barrel.

I was just getting my "boondocking legs" under me.

Now I rarely stay at a Harvest Host or Boondocker's Welcome location. I still keep the membership (not expensive) just in case.

Now I generally just stay in random places. I use apps like IOverlander to find places to stay.

But I will always keep my HH/BW memberships!

That took care of my fear of where will I stay tonight!

As a caveat you must have a self-contained RV with a toilet, water tank and inside cooking facilities.

Pam, Dallas and Coco

From their website:

Unlimited overnight stays at over 4568 Harvest Hosts locations, including 4118 wineries, farms, breweries, distilleries, museums, and other unique attractions, as well as over 450 golf courses. And access to unlimited overnight stays at 3311 Boondockers Welcome host locations. More than 7879 locations in total to make RVing easier and more fun than ever. Boondockers Welcome hosts are members of the RV community that welcome fellow travelers to stay on their private residential property for free. The only payment they expect is your gratitude.

Am I a professional website builder, blogger or vlogger?

Noooooo!

You will see links that go nowhere, pictures that are upside down, videos that won't play and sentences that make little or no sense.

That is OK for me. And I hope it is OK for you. Laugh with me. But maybe this will encourage you to start that pea of an idea you have rolling around in your head.

Over time things will improve. I promise.
