Port Aransas is located south of Corpus Christi, Texas. You have probably heard of S. Padre Island. Port A, as the locals call it is just north. Recently, Coco and I visited, and it was a hiatus from all of the goings on of the Holidays.

We had just come from Amarillo where it was 20 at night and 40 during the day. Here it was 40 at night and 75 during the day! You choose.

One of the most amazing things about Port A is that you can stay on the beach. We pulled our van in between travel trailers, pickup campers, 5th wheels and other vans.

There are waist-high poles planted all along the beach road so you aren't tempted to get too close to the beach. There are tides.

How long is the beach? Wait for it. It is 6.3 miles long.

I got a beach pass which was $12. According to the website you can camp on the beach 3 nights out of 21 days. Not sure how that is regulated. I got the moving itch after 3 days so I'll never know if they would have kicked me out.

I had never been to the Gulf and I have to say I was reasonable impressed. The water was warm and the sand was smooth. Coco loved the beach and the water so she walked me on the beach 4 miles a day.

The tide changed the beach every day. The first day I walked the beach there was a thin line of seaweed about halfway up the tide line. But no other ocean debris.

The second day there was a lot of seaweed and tons of jellyfish littering the beach.

And on the third day, the beach was clean. No seaweed. No jellyfish. Nothing.

For someone who loves change, that worked very well for me.

Port Aransas is on my list of favorite places to visit. We went between Christmas and New Year's Day. The weather was great but you probably shouldn't count on it being that warm every year.

Have you been?

Pam and Coco
